Sometimes, yes sometimes I wish I were a boy I'd been standing by the jukebox Hoping he'd ask me to dance How I wish I could run to him and hug him But a girl musn't make an advance Oh, I'm a girl and it's wonderful It fills my heart with joy But sometimes, yes sometimes I wish I were a boy Oh he's dancing with another And he's holding her so tight Wish I had the nerve to cut right in and stop it But a girl has to be polite Now the record hop is over And I think he's caught my eye Here he comes heading straight in my direction There he goes, he's passing me by

about

"The women (and in many cases, children) that were abused, exploited and taken advantage of in the music industry during the 1960's "Girl Group" era are some of the earliest and still some of the strongest queer role models the queer community has. IT is no surprise to find out through diary entries, artists mémoire, documentaries amd industry gossip that many of these women ended up being queer. They all wanted to be strong and sing songs about real issues and the asshole men controlling the music industry would tell them no, or okay but only if you also sing this song about wanting a boyfriend or about being stupid....etc The whole thing is so fucked up, but the beautiful thing about it is that even despite all of these things, women and queers could see and hear the real+honest pain in their voices and presence.

This whole compilation is sort of a love letter to the artists of this era and to all the marginalized people in the music industry that feel unappreciated and eventually give up because they don't get the praise or acceptance from "the right people"

The music industry is bullshit, write what you want, play what you want, say what you want and just share it with the world. There is an audience out there for everyone no matter what you do.

Please take the time to look up each of these wonderful artists and explore their discography's, you will find more information on each of them if you click on the individual track."-Ryan Avery (Related Records)
